From six operators to one: automated tray forming and packaging

Mlekara Ub automated a labor-intensive tray forming and packaging process with the Machinex CombyPack. The solution reduces direct operator requirements, improves tray quality and consistency, and supports reliable two-shift production.

Machine: COMBYPACK

6 → 1 Operators required
3 CombyPack machines installed
2 Production shifts
LESS Cardboard per tray

THE CHALLENGE

Before the Machinex solution, six operators were required for the process. Three operators formed cardboard trays manually, while three additional operators handled product packaging. Manual tray forming also resulted in higher cardboard consumption and greater variation in tray geometry and structural consistency.

THE SOLUTION

Machinex supplied the CombyPack, integrating automatic tray forming and packaging into one controlled process. The optimized tray design uses less cardboard, while machine-controlled forming provides more accurate and repeatable geometry. Hot-melt adhesive creates a stable, sturdy tray construction suitable for industrial handling and transport.

Packaging engineered for automation

The project improved more than the production process. By redesigning the tray for automated forming, Machinex reduced cardboard usage while achieving a more accurate, stable and sturdy package. The result is consistent packaging quality with less manual handling and better use of material.

Before Machinex

  • 6 operators required for tray forming and packaging
  • 3 operators manually forming cardboard trays
  • 3 operators handling packaging
  • Higher cardboard consumption
  • Greater variation in tray geometry and assembly

With Machinex CombyPack

  • 1 operator required for the machine
  • Automatic tray forming and packaging
  • Optimized tray design using less cardboard
  • More accurate and repeatable tray geometry
  • Hot-glued trays with improved stability and rigidity
