Integrated Sleeve + Tray Packaging at 120 Jars per Minute
Kolomna automated the packaging of glass jars with an integrated Machinex Sleeve + CombyPack line. The system automatically forms sleeve wrap-around packaging and cardboard trays, reducing direct operator requirements while delivering consistent packaging at 120 jars per minute.
Machine: SLEEVE + COMBYPACK
THE CHALLENGE
Before the Machinex solution, thirteen operators were required for the packaging process. Eight operators formed sleeve packaging manually, three operators formed cardboard trays and two operators handled final packaging. The manual process required significant labor and produced greater variation in packaging geometry and consistency.
THE SOLUTION
Machinex supplied an integrated Sleeve + CombyPack line for glass jars. The Sleeve machine automatically forms wrap-around sleeve packaging, after which the CombyPack forms the cardboard tray and completes the secondary packaging process. The complete line operates at 120 jars per minute and requires only one operator for both machines.
Two packaging stages. One integrated line.
The Sleeve + CombyPack solution combines two previously manual packaging stages into one continuous automated process. Glass jars are first packed into a precisely formed sleeve wrap-around package and then into an optimized cardboard tray, reducing manual handling while improving packaging consistency and material efficiency.
Before Machinex
- 13 operators required for the complete packaging process
- 8 operators manually forming sleeve packaging
- 3 operators manually forming cardboard trays
- 2 operators handling final packaging
- Higher cardboard consumption and greater variation in tray geometry
With Machinex Sleeve + CombyPack
- 1 operator supervises both machines
- Automatic sleeve wrap-around packaging
- Automatic tray forming and secondary packaging
- Production speed of 120 glass jars per minute
- More accurate, stable and sturdy trays using less cardboard
RESULTS
- Direct operator requirement reduced from thirteen people to one
- High-speed packaging at 120 glass jars per minute
- Automatic sleeve forming, tray forming and product packaging
- Reduced cardboard consumption with improved tray geometry and structural stability
- Three complete Sleeve + CombyPack lines operate at Kolomna in two-shift production
