Packaging Automation Case Studies

Real production results from MACHINEX packaging automation.

See how customers automated tray forming, case packing, product orientation and other end-of-line processes while reducing direct labor, improving repeatability and supporting reliable multi-shift production.

Results that matter in production

Examples of measurable outcomes from the MACHINEX projects featured below.

Mlekara Ub CombyPack packaging automation by MACHINEX

From six operators to one: automated tray forming and packaging

Mlekara Ub automated a labor-intensive tray forming and packaging process with the MACHINEX CombyPack. The solution reduces direct operator requirements, improves tray quality and consistency, and supports reliable two-shift production.

6 → 1 Operators required
3 CombyPack machines installed
2 Production shifts
LESS Cardboard per tray

Challenge:

Before the MACHINEX solution, six operators were required: three manually formed cardboard trays and three handled packaging. The manual process also used more cardboard and produced greater variation in tray geometry and structural consistency.

Solution:

MACHINEX supplied the CombyPack, integrating automatic tray forming and packaging into one controlled process. The optimized tray design uses less cardboard, while precise machine forming and hot-melt adhesive provide accurate, repeatable and sturdy trays.

Machine: COMBYPACK

Results:

  • Direct operator requirement reduced from six people to one
  • Three CombyPack machines installed at Mlekara Ub
  • Reliable operation across two production shifts
  • Reduced cardboard usage with improved tray geometry, repeatability and stability

Kolomna Sleeve and CombyPack packaging line by MACHINEX

Integrated Sleeve + Tray Packaging at 120 Jars per Minute

Kolomna automated the packaging of glass jars with an integrated MACHINEX Sleeve + CombyPack line. The system forms sleeve wrap-around packaging and cardboard trays automatically, reducing direct operator requirements while delivering consistent packaging at 120 jars per minute.

13 → 1 Operators required
120 Jars per minute
3 Complete lines installed
2 Production shifts

Challenge:

Before automation, thirteen operators were required for the packaging process: eight for sleeve forming, three for tray forming and two for final packaging. Both the sleeve and the tray were formed manually, resulting in high labor demand and greater variation in package geometry.

Solution:

MACHINEX supplied an integrated Sleeve + CombyPack line that automatically packs glass jars into a sleeve wrap-around package and then into a precisely formed cardboard tray. The complete process runs at 120 jars per minute and requires only one operator for both machines.

Machine: SLEEVE + COMBYPACK

Results:

  • Direct operator requirement reduced from thirteen people to one
  • High-speed packaging at 120 glass jars per minute
  • Three complete Sleeve + CombyPack lines installed at Kolomna
  • Reduced cardboard usage with more accurate, stable and sturdy tray construction
  • Reliable operation across two production shifts

Eko Milk open tray feta cheese packaging by MACHINEX

Open-Tray Packaging Designed for Better Feta Cheese Presentation

Eko Milk automated feta cheese packaging with a MACHINEX wrap-around open-tray solution. The machine packs six products per tray at 17 trays per minute while reducing direct operator requirements and improving both packaging quality and product presentation.

5 → 1 Operators required
17 Trays per minute
6 Products per tray
3 Production shifts

Challenge:

Before automation, five operators were required for the packaging process. Eko Milk also wanted a more precise and sturdy tray, lower cardboard consumption and an open packaging design that would keep the feta cheese clearly visible for better product presentation.

Solution:

MACHINEX supplied an automated wrap-around open-tray packaging machine. The system groups six feta cheese products per tray and forms the cardboard packaging around them at 17 trays per minute. The optimized open-tray design reduces cardboard usage while providing precise geometry, strong construction and excellent product visibility.

Machine: WRAP-AROUND OPEN TRAY

Results:

  • Direct operator requirement reduced from five people to one
  • Packaging speed of 17 trays per minute with six feta cheese products per tray
  • Reduced cardboard consumption through an optimized tray design
  • More precise and sturdy trays with excellent product visibility
  • Reliable operation across three production shifts

Sardina vision guided can reorientation and wrap-around packaging by MACHINEX

Vision-Guided Reorientation and Packaging at 200 Cans per Minute

Sardina automated can orientation and secondary packaging with an integrated MACHINEX vision-guided reorienting module and wrap-around packaging line. The system handles 200 cans per minute and creates precise 30-can packs in two rows of 15.

200 Cans per minute
30 Cans per pack
VISION Guided reorientation
7 → 1 Operators required

Challenge:

Before automation, seven operators were required for the process. Sardina also needed every can to be correctly oriented before packaging while maintaining high production speed and consistent pack quality.

Solution:

MACHINEX supplied a vision-guided reorienting module integrated with an automated wrap-around packaging machine. The system detects can orientation, reorients each product as required and forms 30-can packs arranged in two rows of 15 at a production speed of 200 cans per minute.

Machine: VISION REORIENTING MODULE + WRAP-AROUND PACKAGING

Results:

  • Vision-guided product orientation at 200 cans per minute
  • Automatic grouping and wrap-around packaging of 30 cans in two rows of 15
  • Direct operator requirement reduced from seven people to one
  • Reduced cardboard consumption through optimized packaging design
  • More precise, consistent and structurally stable packaging

Precision Tray Forming at 22 Trays per Minute

Mlekara Kruna automated tray forming with a MACHINEX tray former designed for accurate, repeatable and material-efficient packaging. The machine produces up to 22 trays per minute while improving tray geometry, structural stability and cardboard usage.

22 Trays per minute
PRECISE Improved tray geometry
LESS Cardboard usage
3 → 1 Operators required

Challenge:

Before automation, three operators were required for tray forming. Mlekara Kruna also needed a more repeatable process with lower cardboard consumption, improved tray geometry and stronger, more stable finished trays.

Solution:

MACHINEX supplied an automated tray former capable of producing up to 22 trays per minute. Machine-controlled forming provides consistent geometry and structural quality, while the optimized tray design reduces cardboard consumption and improves overall packaging stability.

Machine: TRAY FORMER
